Requirement Details
The transition to 2024 Standards includes important updates for professional certifications and development requirements. The CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) exam will be updated in May 2025 to reflect the new standards, though existing CIA holders are not required to retest. External quality assessment teams must now include at least one member with an active CIA designation, emphasizing the importance of professional certification. The standards introduce enhanced continuing professional education requirements, including specific training on new Topical Requirements, digital competencies, and emerging risk areas. Internal audit functions must maintain competency matrices mapping staff skills to audit universe requirements and develop individual development plans aligned with the function’s strategic needs. Professional development activities must be documented and reported as part of quality assurance processes.
